Buddha Images at Wat Luang Phor Sodh

Explore beautiful and rare Buddha images at Wat Luang Phor Sodh Buddhist Meditation Institute. There are over 40 Buddha images located inside the Ubosota Hall. They are all made of fine materials such as Burmese jade, rock crystal, Averturine, solid gold, alloy of gold and silver.

The temple has a huge collection of rare Buddha images, collected from different parts of the Buddhist world. There are over 40 Buddha images located inside the Ubosota Hall. They are made of fine materials such as Burmese jade, rock crystal, aventurine, solid gold, alloy of gold and silver and they are located in the Uposata Hall.

This is the largest of the six statues (62 cm high and 53 cm wide) made of Burmese jade. This Buddha image was the largest piece of jade brought to Thailand from Burma during the last 20-30 years. The weight of the original piece was 285 kg., but after carving (in 1991) at the famous factory in Ampoe Mae Sai, Chiangrai, the weight was reduced to 99 kg.

This statue is made out of a 175 kg. piece of rock crystal from Amarisa City in India (49 cm high and 40 cm wide). This was carved in 1990 by a Hindu craftsman in Jaipur City, following our plans and drawings. The carving took nearly six months to complete.
This Buddha image is made of aventurine, whose color is royal purple. The image is 50 cm high and 39 cm. wide and was also carved at the famous factory in Amphoe Mae Sai, Chiangrai.

This is made of green Chinese jade, carved in the Chinese style. This statue comes from mainland China, and is 59 cm. high and 42.5 cm. wide. The abbot bought it in 1993 at Tang Dynasty City, Singapore.

This image is 58 cm. high and 43 cm. wide and could be solid gold. It is said to come from the southern part of China. This statue came into Thailand after the Second World War when a military officer married a headman's daughter. He received the statue as a present from his future father-in-law. In 1971 when the abbot was still a layman, he bought this statue in Lampang Province.

The statue is 45 cm. high and 28 cm. wide. Several years ago this little statue was purchased by the abbot. The abbot was then still a layman and was conducting a public opinion survey in the North. Once during polishing, while the image was being kept at the monastery Wat Paknam in Bangkok, the image moved one of its hands, a sign proving its sacredness.
